South Korea has agreed to pay more for US troops' position on the peninsula, US President Donald Trump has said.

Mr. Trump's comments come at a time when the two countries are in serious talks to renew their defense sharing agreement. Mr Trump had previously said he had rejected South Korea's offer to increase its financial contribution by 13%.

"South Korea has agreed to pay us a lot of money, which we greatly appreciate," he told reporters during a White House meeting with Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
