TOKYO, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) – The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Saturday in Ibaraki, Japan.





The quake struck at 2:07 am local time, measuring 36.0 degrees north latitude and 140.1 degrees east longitude and 70 kilometers deep.

The quake in Ibaraki prefecture occurred at a level of 4 and the highest level of seismic activity in Japan was 7.

There have been no immediate reports of tsunamis so far.
