TOKYO: Japan is set to lift a state of emergency in the Tokyo and Hokkaido regions on Monday due to a drop in the number of new infections and improved medical systems, the minister said.

Tokyo, Kanagawa, Qashima, Takama and Hokkaido are the last remaining counties under the measure of the country's 47 provinces.

Minister of Emergency Response Yasutoshi Nishimura said the Council of Health Professionals will meet on Monday morning to discuss improving the measure.
